December 26th, 2009: David Paul Burchfield R.I.P.

On December 26th, 2009 at 7:32, I received a call from Davey Gardner. “I don’t know how to tell you this, man… but Burchfield died in a car accident.” There was an unexplained silence that came over me. I’ve known “Da-Da” for about 5 years, but he was more than the occasional act that performed at the 308 Blues Club. David Burchfield was family. We shared many a midnight conversations, traded riffs, and enjoyed the taste of cheapened tequilla. And if you had the pleasure to meet him, you would know David was special.

I don’t have all the details and really don’t care to know. My friend is no longer here. My heart and prayers go out to his wife and daughter. I’m not good with any of this, so I will keep it brief.

And for those who don’t know David Burchfield, the musician, check out The Electric Mudd

Miss you, bro.
