Last week, our local Enterprise-Tocsin Newspaper announced B.B. King’s final Homecoming Festival in Indianola, Mississippi, will be May 25th, 2014. The Ambassador of the Blues has graciously performed the hometown event in his name and honor for the past 34 years. And for most of those years, festival proceeds have been donated to the Indianola community. Mr. Riley B. King is now 88 years old. He has done much for the art form and has helped spread Blues culture worldwide. In short, B.B. King is the face of the Blues and has given the Blues of the Mississippi Delta to the world.
In preparation for B.B. King’s return, the 308 Blues Club, The Blue Biscuit, The Gin Mill Mall, The Crown, several local businesses, the Indianola Chamber of Commerce, Indianola Main Street, the Mississippi Delta Blues Society of Indianola, and the Mayor’s Office are working directly with the B.B. King Museum to ensure this will be the best Homecoming Festival yet. I will surely provide additional information as it becomes available.
In the meantime, I am canvassing talent both local and a far who desire to participate in B.B. King’s final show. As stated in a previous memo, this year’s Homecoming Festival is provided free to the public. Any individual artists and/or bands interested in donating their talent for this event, please feel free to contact me directly at 662-577-4181 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org
