OCTOBER 14th, 2012: This past Sunday, once again I was asked to emcee our annual Mississippi Delta Regional Blues Challenge… Of course, I obliged. The band challenge was held again at da House of Khafre in downtown Indianola. This year we witnessed 5 talented bands representing several blues genres, including: Delta Stomp, Southern Soul, Blues Rock, and Hill Country. Bands in attendance were Moocha Delight, Yellow Dog Junction, Big Dave and The Evol Love Band, The Mark ‘Muleman’ Massey Band, and The All Night Long Blues Band.
This year, we welcomed back Dorothy Moore of “Misty Blue” fame who had been missing last year due to knee surgery. The Mississippi Delta Blues Society of Indianola celebrated her birthday (which is actually October 13th) with cake and song. Janet Webb then presented her with an award for her contributions to the blues and to our Blues Society. Be sure to check out Dorothy Moore’s new CD, “Blues Heart” (available on Amazon)!
Band division winner, The ‘All Night Long Blues Band’ of Clarksdale, will represent the Mississippi Delta at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, Tennessee. 2nd place band runner-up was Mark ‘Muleman’ Massey. Next week, Sunday, October 21st, Solo/Duo acts will compete at the Blue Biscuit.
See ya there!
