Body discovered hanging in a tree in Greenwood, Mississippi

According to Leflore County coroners, an unidentified black male in his twenties was discovered about 12:30 pm Friday afternoon hanging in a tree in a field in Greenwood, Mississippi.

I have heard much discussion about this “supposed suicide”. Clearly, this scene is a throwback to the 50’s and 60’s and cries of race mob induced lynching. Personally, I must have all my information before making any assumptions. In order to “fight the power”, one must have a clear mind and secure all facts before making a case.

There needs to be mainstream attention brought to Greenwood, Mississippi pending a full investigation. The action itself is cause for a nationwide stir regardless of who is responsible, black or white. And yes, historically, Mississippi is notorious for its racial tension and continued segregation. I am quite familiar with the ongoing racial issues in Greenwood and for that matter throughout the nation. If this is in fact a race-related/hate crime, then Mississippi will need to bring swift resolution or continue to wear its scarlet letter. Let us also consider the violent gang activity and black-on-black crime in Greenwood as well. Furthermore, let us consider the symbolism here; a black man hanging from a tree in the fields of Mississippi clearly points fingers elsewhere – “It must have been a racist white man who did this.” Again, let us get the facts first.

In short, a new year is upon us. We are not living in the 50’s. It is 2010, soon 2011… let us push Greenwood authorities to get this case wrapped up quickly. Be mindful, most local agencies do not want the feds in their business. But I am certain the FBI has already assumed much of this investigation. And if not, phone calls will be made.

We deserve the truth.

I agree with the family member, Rachel, this picture is offensive and inappropriate. The article alone would have been sufficient to get your point across. Above all, you may have violated a law because this case is under investigation.

      Hello Rachel,

I do sincerely apologize for your family’s loss. There were no ill intentions towards my submission here. At the time I posted this photo, the young man had not been identified. I simply wanted to raise attention to certain matters surrounding this state’s history and the continued racial strife. Rumors are rampant and are now causing further strain. All I ask is that there is resolution and truth can be brought to light.

I found this photo online and was surprised that no immediate information was provided other than it indicated that a young black male was hung in a remote field in Greenwood, and that Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks deemed the death as a suicide. This just didn’t settle with me and I wanted answers.

I do understand that immediate family must be contacted prior to releasing additional information.

Thank you for coming forward. Again, I apologize. However, whether this was a suicide or race-induced lynching, the media has made it a public matter…

But in response, the photo will be removed here.

It always seems appropiate to show how others have suffered but we are supposed to suffer in slience and not draw attention to our ongoing holocaust. But by the same token, if we do not help ourselves we cannot expect that others will. Know your history and know yourself.

This gentleman has violated absolutely no laws. I’m very sorry for your loss but, after the grief period is over I hope and pray that you see fit for the picture to go back up. The world needs to see what Mississippi is like in 2010.

This is absolutely ridiculous after reading the story that just goes to show that things of this type still exists, I dont know what happened but in Mississippi i wouldnt doubt it. I wouldnt think that the stepfather would appear in writing to be so calm about it and just go along with what the investigator says. I find it strange that he would put the rope back in his pocket after he got the right length to do the job. And im not from greenwood nor mississippi but when i see where he was found in a tree in a field i wouldnt think that this field was in a neighborhood. So im tryna say that i know that somebody saw this guy walking aside the road, and like i said im not from there but i bet this field was way off away from everything and just so happen he walked upon a tree with a table sitting beside it. I sure hope the issue is pushed about a deep investigation because like a present commentor said it shouldnt get swept under the rug like the guy who died becasue he dated a white girl. MY deepest sympathy goes out to the family and all the friends and people who was affected by this lose. We just pray for a better day where color wouldnt matter. Not saying that this was or wasnt the case, btu i wouldnt dare not rule it out as a hate crime. “ONE LOVE, ONE LOVE LETS GET TOGETHER AND FEEL ALRIGHT”

It doesn’t surprise me how things are still going on in the south.I am white and I date a black man,I live in jackson Ms and I see the way people look at us in the store’s and even at church.I stopped attending this one particular church because of the way some people acted. The south might one day change, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. All we can do is pray about the situation.

Look im from Greenwood. Where that body was found, those waters are only treaded by whites, point blank period. We have what we consider is Greenwood and they what they have considered as North Greenwood. We once shared post offices and parks. I feel if it was left up to some then they would have a different zip from us. They down played this action. If you notice the Greenwood Commonwealths two line posting of the incident and notice the headline story you should see the cover up. Anything we do to ourselves are posted big pictures first 48 style from pictures, breakdowns, interviews, all front page. But when that same shoe is on the other foot well I dont even have to accusate. So the facts are they are going to do us the way they have always done us, through our school system, locking up of 100’s of black faces, jobless rates and through the Greenwood Commonwealth using media to show a imaginary picture of how all of us are irresponsible lifeless gangbangers. When in actuality they are racist, cocky, and now the new thing of 2010, “nigger hangers”.

This is horrible! Question: How many unsung deaths have been reported in Mississippi? What of the Prison’s there? how hard is it to believe that this could very well be the maliciousness of a hate crime?

Yes this is a throw back, a throw away and a damn shame for human beings to be so ignorant and place little to no value on life.

1950, 60, 70, 80, 90, 2010…hate is a learned behavior, why would we not believe that hatred of this kind is still prevalent? It is and will be apart of the past present and future sad to say. Why and how we can fear the unknown yet go into unknown territory of lands and universes is far beyond my understanding, it’s more than hate it’s fear, fear of being last. Fear of payback from the throwbacks and thrown away.

      I wish minds would open.

I respect the family’s wishes. However you still need to place the photo there. It may sting for them now but it needs to be shown now. Don’t back down from true journalism. Don’t back down from true acts of showing racism. Don’t back down if they are too much in grief right now, understand. But Emmett Till’s photo woke a nation up.
Put it back up there. Emmett Till’s mother had an open casket. We act like racism isn’t here any longer. See this photo. In fact do a photo of a Black man hanging and the family’s photo. Don’t compromise for the truth of racism. Apologize to the family but be stronger than them and tell them one day they will understand that you too supported their family by showing the truth!

WHAT WOULD THE WORLD HAD KNOWN WITHOUT THE PICTURES OF “EMMETT TILL. HIS MOTHER UNDERSTOOD, SHE NEEDED OUR HELP FOR ANY FORM OF JUSTICE. MAYBE THIS POOR FAMILY HAS FOTGOTTEN HOW HIS MOTHER HAD TO STAND. IF SHE WAS ALIVE SHE WOULD I’M SURE STAND WITH THEM.
      “LESS WE FORGET”
The murder of Emmett Till, a 14-year old black boy murdered in Mississippi in August 1955 sparked the Civil Rights movement, but the crime won’t caused a nation to awake if not for the above photo. The gruesome photographs of Till’s mutilated corpse however circulated around the country, notably appearing in Jet magazine, which targeted African American crowd. The photo drew intense public reaction. Till, visiting Mississippi from Chicago, whistled at a married white woman thus incurring the wrath of local white mob.

In the middle of the night, the door to his grandfather’s house was thrown open, and Emmett was taken by the mob of at least six white men, forced into a truck and driven away, never again to be seen alive. Till’s body was found swollen and disfigured in a river three days after his abduction and only identified by his ring. The body was sent back to Chicago, and his mother insisted on leaving the casket open for the funeral and allowing people to take photographs because she wanted people to see how badly Till’s body had been disfigured—she has famously been quoted as saying, “I wanted the world to see what they did to my baby.” Up to 50,000 people viewed the body.

Sometimes emotions will sway one’s rational thought. The purpose of my reporting and posting the initial picture was to to draw such emotion and generate discussion, which I see has thus resulted. But it is the urgency of truth that I seek; not to provoke racial unrest. There’s enough tension already. Again, I reiterate… Let us get the facts before passing judgement. Whether by suicide or lynching, this was not a welcomed manner for this young man to meet death. I await the final autopsy report before further commenting on this situation. My prayers are with the family of Frederick Jermaine Carter.

It’s absolutely extremely difficult to commit suicide by hanging one’s self from a tree. So let’s not be naive. You would’nt be committing racial unrest for simply posting a photograph that could very well be a racial incident. I hope you don’t allow any one else to sway you from reporting again. A picture is worth more than 1,000 words. I respect you. I just think you will learn from this incident that courtesy and due dilligence are fine. It’s not mutually exclusive to the efforts of creating a culture of reality and honesty on your blog. If you want to paint a real picture of delta, include it all. Good luck on your journalism and your reporting.

Not surprised if it turned out to be black on black crime, which, is what crossed my mind initially as I read the story. As I have traveled this great country of ours every town has it black on black issue. Downtown Atlanta was scary and looked like a a bunch of zombies roaming the streets. Streets filled with lost souls. Denver near where Chauncy Billips grew up playing ball reds and blues who are black still can’t get along and don’t pick up the pop cabs around the Rec center that raised one of the NBAs greatest stars.. You’ll be spotted by a young kid or worse shot because theres either dope or money in them. In Wichita Ks where a teenage wanna be red banger says with audacity that he would kill a mf in front of the police at a boys and girls club forum meeting. In Jackson Ms where around the campus of Jackson State Uni it looks like a war zone full of blight. We need another movement… A movement out of the box of ignorance and diseducation…NAACP where are you? Our advancement is reaching

I would not be surprised if we read this next week and it states that a “white”, was found hanging. I really think that an eye for an eye was meant for black people to use on whites. And if violence never solved anything, then why are we in Iran. Kill one of mine, expect the same thing. The one way to stop these whites from killing us is to kill them back. Make someone in my family cry, your family will cry too! They’ll want to stop because then they would have to live in fear. And yes, every one should wear a mask. This is not an isolated incident, this plays out everyday in the United States. And whites wonder why we still don’t like or trust any of them. St. Petersburg, Florida is the same, only they start the racism in kindergarten. They teach little black children that they arent worth anything and send them home with books on slavery to read over the summer holiday. One school in particular, Golfport elementary, did exactly that in 2010. They wanted the little black children to think of themselves as slaves and the white kids to believe they were the masters. Anything deemed to be black was wrong and they were(probably still are) teaching this, and the parents arent saying one word about it. Probably because they were taught the same thing, and dont pay those types of things any attention. To name a few schools in St Pete that do this would be Boca Ciega HS, Gibbs HS, Lakeland HS, Seminole HS, Tyrone MS, just to name a few. Dont educate your children in St. Petersburg, Fl, Bush was Gov. and this place has gone to Hell in a handbasket.

2nd.. the comments about him being a black man hanging from a tree MUST be by racist white men are about as ignorant as I can think of.. I am SOOO SICK & TIRED of hearing the race card being thrown up everytime a person of color (ANY race) has something wrong happen to them.. IT IS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT RACE!!!!

(this is a reply to the person who said the authorities will just chalk this death up to “another suicide”)
I live in California & the gang violence here is out of control!!! Black, Latino & WHITE people are murdered here allllll the time & so many times it is called “Gang Related”!!
& sooo many times they are right, they are society losers killing other society losers!!! BUT when it is found that a “white gang member” killed a “Black gang member” the damn race card is thrown up & HERE WE GO!!!! Californians have to prepare for another riot.. Im sick of it.. how many times have a white person been killed by a black person?? PLENTY!!!!!!

GROW UP take responsibility for your own actions, quit expecting a specific race, gender, religion, political party, sexual orientation etc.. group to speak for another individual person.. I in NO way expect EVERY Black man to defend the mistake made by ONE black man,, NOR do I expect EVERY Muslim to have to defend & or correct the mistakes of the radicals on 9-11.. People are People & they are individual, nobody can explaine, defend, or correct what another individual person does..

my prayers go out to the family of this poor man (however he passed away) I hope that IF somebody else did this, then I hope & pray that they are brought to justice & is SENTENCED TO DEATH in the same horrific way that this man was.. If he did infact commit suicide I am very sorry that he felt that there was no other way out.. My prayer go out to you..

People are you serious! And the cracker remark??? I live in Greenwood and I know what goes on. You rarely see in the papers that a white person killed another white person or that a white person killed a black person. All I ever see is about Blacks killing blacks. All of the robberies here, blacks. North Greenwood and whatever, there were plenty of neighborhoods that whites lived in that were taken over by blacks and the violence. So yes, white people live in North Greenwood and keep it crime free and clean. All of the apartment complexes are filled with black people. A white person with a low income can rarely find a low income apartment. A white person even gets crap when going to get food stamps. But when you see a black person in there with her nails freshly done, new hair, baby phat clothing, it makes you wonder. I know the SSI check ratio here too. They have more black people living off of us the tax payers who go out and get jobs. Yes, there are quite a few of decent black people here. And yes there are white people who are racist, but before you start making remarks, read the news everyday. As far as Obama, that was the biggest mistake voters made. It was more about having a black president rather than what was good for this country. He has not done one good thing since being president. All I can say is that the blacks in Mississippi have more of a free ride than the whites. And they not only assume they should have, but they expect it and demand it. Whatever may have happened to this young man, i hope they find out but it is highly possible that he did commit suicide. But of course as usual its always something racist here in Mississippi

Yes let’s get the fact first, before we ride on them fools, if yt America don’t know they are about to get their wakeup call. because those of us in the spiritual realm, have always stayed out the fray, now the “Mothers” are watching and folks will be dealt with on a spiritual level. no longer will you think its your divine birthright to kill black folks, just because by nature your hateful and fearful. you have done enough damage on this planet. and is foolish to think you will be allowed to continue your reign of terror. if you can’t coexist, you must be dismissed!! Our prayers go out to the family, may the young lord find peace and travel well.

      Where to begin…
I don’t understand how you go from a young man’s death, to food stamps, to President Obama’s election.

Through all the comments, rants and whatever (except yours possibly), people just wanted fair and impartial justice for this young man no matter what the cause would have been. And getting justice can be a wild ride, but it is never free for anyone concerned.

My condolences to the family and I hope they can find some island of comfort in this storm.

I agree with The Greenwood Resident & Jodi. I live in Greenwood myself and they always play the race card here. In all actual reality it’s the whites that have a hard time here. It’s hard finding a decent place to live that is affordable, clean, and free of a bunch of black guys standing on the corners asking if you wanna buy something. The schools are filled with chaos and racism. In order for your child to be happy in school without drama, you have to fork out thousands of dollars every year for a private school. Then the whites that don’t have that kind of money have to deal with an unhappy child. It is hard for white people to get government assistance. I myself know this for a fact. I was given an extremely hard time trying to get food stamps when my family and I really needed them. They treated me as if I was lying or something. She wanted all types of paperwork and information that I had never been asked for before and it would have took forever to get all of that. So I called in and started asking questions about everything she was saying she needed and come to find out, she didn’t have to ask me for any of it. In fact, my counselor was a black woman. Then I gave up and went back and had a white lady as my counselor and she had a much better attitude with me. She did not give me a hard time at all. It’s hard to get anything around here is you are a struggling white person. Not to mention, they all seem to have money to pay for these nice rims and sound systems that drive me crazy. Really, what makes them think everyone within a 1/2 mile wants to hear what they are listening to. Then when they go deaf from it, they will get a check every month! Plus they are living in apartments and houses where they get assistance and don’t have to pay for anything. So, if you ask me, If the white people in Greenwood are racist, it’s because the government has made us that way. Black people think they deserve a free ride because of history years ago. Get over it! Stop whining and crying about it. Get out and work, stop having dozens of kids you can’t afford. We have to pay for them is what it all boils down to. You get a free ride for everything else, get some free birth control. It’s even hard for a white woman to get that here at the health department. Because we work and have income to pay our own bills and rent or house payments, they won’t give us free service. And by the way, everyone who thinks the whites have issues in Greenwood and Mississippi, please go read the article about the man who was raping the hogs… He was black.
The statement that Greenwood Resident made about obama, very true. Hopefully that sorry excuse for a president wont be elected again and it’s doubtful he will. He has done nothing good for this country but bring it down and make black people feel as if they are better than everyone else. It was all about having a black president. They do have some smart black people out there that became wise after he was elected and were kicking themselves. As far as Ricky Banks, I know him and I know that he is a very good man. He wouldn’t have been the Sheriff for so long if he wasn’t. But those of you who think that you are being done wrong and playing the race card, do your research on Greenwood crime and I promise you will find that more than most of it comes from blacks. Nothing will ever change here because of everyone always pointing fingers because of race. It’s not the white person who is pointing fingers all the time!!!

This whole blog is about more than this young mans death from the start. Did you simply pass up the very bad vocabulary comment with some fool calling white people crakkas and all the comments jumping to the conclusion that this just must have been a murder by a white person… The obama comment that Greenwood Resident made was a reply to another comment made by someone else about our so called president.
My heart goes out to the family as well but there are murders everyday that don’t make headlines like this that should. Just because it was a person hanging from a tree, everyone yells race. It seems to me that Mississippi is the way it is because people can’t let go.
As for NubianGoddez, all I can do is laugh and shake my head at that post.

If I missed those other comments, then I’m sorry. Still doesn’t change the fact that the issue is of this young man’s death. Whether his death was or was not a hate crime is important to understanding what happened to him. The coroner’s report says it was a suicide. Some people believe it, some people don’t. That’s plenty enough to talk about.

Again, for all the the folks dragging these ancillary issues on both sides:
      1. We don’t have any evidence that he voted for Obama. Nothing indicating he supported President Obama was found anywhere near him. So, why the talk about the president whether pro or con?
      2. We don’t know if he was on welfare, but considering that he was working with his stepfather, a painter, when he wandered away, circumstantial evidence indicates that he at least was trying to do something to better himself financially. But, again, why is this important to this discussion?
3.We don’t know if he bought rims, or kept people up at night with loud music. So why is that pertinent to the conversation?

      Now to address the haters:
      4. Lumping all white people into some nebulous blob of sheet wearing nightriders hellbent on wiping out those of a darker hue doesn’t help anything. And it prevents a healthy, but heated debate about what’s going on down there.
      5. Lumping all black folk into some nebulous blob that seems to be working to ruin lives and take livelihoods doesn’t help anything. And it prevents a healthy but heated debate about what’s going on down there (see what I did there?)

I’m not saying that there aren’t some white people or some black people who could have done this, or that this wasn’t a suicide. Some of us have an answer we believe, some of us don’t.

Like I said earlier, plenty enough in there for us to debate. But as a wise person once said, we can disagree without being disagreeable.

I’m asking that we keep it above the belt. Because, in the end, we don’t know what indignities of life caused him to meet his end under such circumstances. But what we can do, as fellow human beings, is allow him some dignity in death.

@evelyn What evidence do you have that suggests this was not a suicide? Is that statement based on factual evidence, or is it just another tired out of date argument of deflection. The idea that this can’t be a suicide because the young man is black, and therefore it is the fault of somebody somewhere “out there” that is white, is a racist comment. Your obstinent platitudes do nothing to aid this family or the community in the healing process. It also belies a need to hold on to outdated beliefs. Do you believe in reconciliation, or is the fact that the black community faces some serious self-inflicted problems too much for you to come to grips with? We can’t blame others for our problems. We must rise above on our own accord. In this day and age no one is holding us back based on race alone. Lack of education? Yes. Lack of character? Yes. Lack of self respect and personal responsibility? Yes. But not solely on race.

What type of human being would say some of the rude and disrespectful statements you would say about African Americans. How do you feel that African Americans have it better then whites. So what if they wanna buy the big cars with the big rims its there money. Where do you get off talking about African American women having all these babies and cant take care of them, at least I know that African Americans women dont take the government money to have there children injected into them. And furthermore taking your hard earned money please we all know if you was making a good piece of change you wouldn’t be elgible for foodstamps anyway.Truth be told the person could be African American or White, Mexican, whatever. The only thing the Carter family want is to find out what happen. Mississippi is not the only state with murders and black on black, and white on white crime. Whites get high just likes the blacks. Some blacks might be rich one day and lose there job just like whites can. African Americans breath the same air whites do and truth be told when we leave this hateful earth we all gonna be in heaven together yellow, red, purple, blue, black so stop making your stupid racism marks and pray for this family.

I think you meant to respond to Race Card Getting Old.

But if you didn’t, I suggest you slow down and reread what I wrote. But if you don’t I’ll give you the salient points for what you’re ranting about:

      M Decarabas wrote:
      >>2. We don’t know if he was on welfare, but considering that he >>was working with his stepfather, a painter, when he wandered >>away, circumstantial evidence indicates that he at least was >>trying to do something to better himself financially.

Tiffany, here is the kicker right here:

      >>But, again, why is this important to this discussion?

Ok, now for the second one:

      M Decarabas wrote:
      >>3.We don’t know if he bought rims, or kept people up at night >>with loud music.

Wait for it… Wait for it…
      >>So why is that pertinent to the conversation?

In that post, I tried to answer some ignorance with some well-reasoned truth and by not flying off the handle. And I tried as diplomatically as possible to ask folks to keep it clean.

There’s a lot of stuff I want to say about your response, but I’ll only say two things:
      1. What you are demonstrating isn’t much different than what Race Card Getting Old did. All emotion and righteous indignation but at the wrong person(people).
In my opinion, that’s the big reason these situations never get resolved. Instead of focusing on figuring out what happened to the victims and putting pressure on the authorities to do real investigations, folks just snipe at each other until we forget that we want answers to why something like this could happen.

      2. I’m black.

To bring this thing back around, hey Mario, any new developments?

People need to look at the evidence. How did Frederick Carter tie this complicated knot? Was he an experienced Boy Scout or have other training? He cut the rope, put the unused part in his pocket — but there was no knife on the scene? The family has repeatedly asked for the body to be transferred for an independent autopsy– why are officials delaying? Letting the body and evidence decay? Why weren’t police procedures followed and the area roped off– what was the name of the officer(s) involved and why aren’t they up for charges? Why were there a second unidentified pair of footprints and why aren’t they being investigated? How can the police chief say there has been an investigation without answers for these minimal questions? Please take up the fight, sisters and brothers, or there will be no justice.
p.s. I am an anti-racist white ally. Some of us go to real churches and love our neighbors (and know that all white people are racist and are working to be healed and do justice).

It is not necessary to put a race of people down, because of this incident. And if anybody hates anyone, you hate God’s creation. God is love, and we must love everybody IF you want to go to heaven. One thing we all know is that we will have to die one day. Just put yourself in the this family’s place. How would you feel if your child was found hung. I believe that anybody would want to know what happen, and what caused this. My heart goes out to this family, and you all are in my prayers. GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) – Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks says a man whose body was found hanging in a tree had a history of mental illness.

This is the problem. Sheriff jobs is to investigate not to fill people head with false allegations. That is why we have Doctors who go to school
for a long time. Cutting open a heads or reading through med records is
not one of them for a sheriff i do not thing you need to have education being a police, but only in Mississippi were uneducated people or
trying to make educated decisions. Want to be a Doctor! go to school.
Everyone wants to do other people jobs and it looks easy, but you need
some education to do it. Let me ask this question. Would anyone get on a
airplane and ride it across the ocean untested and billy builded it in his workshop, no education no history of flighting and no training?
On tv it looks easy when you are watching CIC NYPD educated and trained personnel but i assure you it is not.

Its is time for someone else to step in now. Mississippi failure rate is not good when it comes to investigating crime of hate and death of other people than white. Since 1776 to 2011 America is 235 years old now. slavery was a good much of that 235 years. hate has been the other part of what is left now. Failure is no more of an option since the hangings in the jail house fews years ago and now no one has said nothing. We know
crimes can not investigate themself. So now it is time for someone else
to investigate problems like this because Mississippi can not do it on there own.

I understand that you feel like that African-American got it made, that mess is NOT TRUE AT ALL. I HAD TO AND IS STILL GOING THRU WHAT YOU HAD TO ENDURE TO GET HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT. I APPLIED FOR FOOD STAMPS FOR MY CHILD AND I WHEN I WAS 18 AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET THEM UNTIL I WAS 22. MEANWHILE, I KNOW OTHER PEOPLE AFRICAN- AMERICAN AND WHITE (YEAH, I SAID WHITE) THAT WAS SAME AGE AS ME THAT WERE GETTING THEM. AND AS FAR AS HAVING YOUR AFRICAN- AMERICAN CASEWORKER THAT WERE RUDE, I HAVE HAD BOTH TO BE RUDE ACTING AS IF IT IS THEIRS TO GIVE AWAY. EVERY MAN THAT HAS CAR WITH RIMS AND BEATS AREN’T ALWAYS US!! WHITE BOYS ARE DOING IT TOO NOW!!! I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THERE BUT HERE IN MOBILE THERE IS JUST AS MANY IF NOT MORE WHITE FOLKS LIVING OFF THE SYSTEM THAN AFRICAN-AMERICAN. AND EVERY AFRICAN AMERICAN THAT IS LIVING OFF PUBLIC ASSISTANCE DOESN’T PLAN TO LIVE OFF OF IT FOR LIFE. IT IS JUST A BUILDING BLOCK TO THEIR FUTURE OF BEING INDEPENDENT OF THE SYSTEM AND OTHERS. Not to worry, there wont be any “midnight rides” by the KKK or any one else. This wasnt a lynching as some of you are suggesting. It is a sad loss of life. It is nothing more than that. I live in Greenwood and worked 23 years at “The Farm” ( Mississippi State Prison for those that dont know)
While there is racism(on BOTH sides of the color line) lets not inject that into this forum. You are speculating and grabbing at straws as opposed to reading the factual matters of the case/investigation.
What bothers me the most about some people in Greenwood and other parts of MS is that they are altogether too quick to bust out the deck of race cards and point fingers WITHOUT getting all the facts.
Let the investigation run its course. If you dont like the outcome you can contact the FBI.But you HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN CONCLUDED.
