Another season and yet another passing… My father’s eldest brother died yesterday – Aurther Strong Jr., my Uncle. He was the man who gave me music. I was 7 or 8 when my Uncle Aurther gave me my first guitar. Through the years, he would always ask me to play on one of his recordings. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to share my talent with the Pearl Gospel Singers… and now, I won’t have the chance to share a stage with him.
I will keep this brief… though there is so much more. But for now, family comes first. Only the Strong survive… We love ya Unc! You are missed.

In loving memories to the family of my dear friend and godbrother, Arthur Strong Jr. It was just this August that he called me after touring, to learned that my mother and his godmother had passed in July (Sallie Mary Cloyd Jackson) of Darlove, MS.
Immediately after I told him the news, he took a deep breath, and then he asked me; “why didn’t you call me?” I said to him, mama waited a long time, but he waited a little too late. He then took another deep breath, and said, “I’ll called you back later; that was the last time I heard his voice.
“I REALLY LOVED HIM, ADMIRED HIS TALENT, ALWAYS HOPED THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND WRITE SONGS LIKE HIM, BUT NEVER WANTED TO HAVE ALL THE MANY REHERSALS THAT HE HAD IN HIS PREPARATIONS FOR A GOSPEL SHOW. “HE WAS DEDICATED.”
Mr. Strong had a passsion for the older generation; he loved his mother and often spokes of her as I spoke of mine.
THERE’S NOTHING LIKE A MOTHER’S LOVE AND THE GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD IS TO HAVE A SON THESE DAY THAT LOVED THEIR MOM.
HE’S GONE NOW BUT HIS PREACHING GOD’S WORDS IN HIS SONGS TO A LOST GENERATION WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

I saw Arthur Strong Jr. and his Pearl Gospel Singers perform when I was a little girl I couldn’t have been more than 10. It was in West Palm Beach, FL at a gospel program at my church. My sisters and I were in a singing group and would often perform or attend gospel programs,we enjoyed their performance so much we brought a tape back then in the early eighties LOL. We listen to it over and over until it broke or we lost it. I never forgot the high tenor sound of his voice and in the band there was a cutie that played bass named “Jimmy” LOL! Anyway I was on youtube and did a search for for Arthur Strong Jr. and his Pearl Gospel Singers and to my shock a video came up and I heard that voice I hadn’t heard in over 25 years. When I heard the “Hang up your hang ups” song I was amazed,I use to love that song when I was a girl! But sadly I read in the comments he had passed. Music is so powerful and the impact it leaves on a child or any person is lifelong. I am so glad I was able to hear his voice again he was a true talent but most of all I’m glad be gave his time and talent to the Almighty God becasue only what’s done for him will last. His music lives on. God bless his Family.

Though I had met him only a few times I knew he was someone special. He taught my nephew to play the saxaphone. In only a few months time Arthur had taught my nephew numerous songs and how to march and play simultaneously in homecoming parade. Arthur must have had god on his side for none of these were simple tasks. The patience this man possessed could only have come from a truly meaningful relationship with god. He will surely be missed by many people including the students, faculty, and family of Dermott school district.
