Qualifying Closes for Indianola’s Mayoral Race

Several people have inquired about my involvement in the upcoming mayoral election in Indianola, Mississippi. I have made my intentions for the office known as early as April of this year. I have officially submitted my entry as an Independent candidate and will appear on the December 8th ballot.

The Democratic Primary is November 10th. A Democratic run-off will be held on November 24th, if no one candidate wins the majority.

The Democratic candidates are Steve Rosenthal, Clanton Beamon, John Matthews, and incumbent Mayor Arthur Marble, who seeks a third term.

Again, the general election is December 8th. At that time, I will face the elected Democratic candidate. If anyone would like to assist my campaign and help push forth my platform, “Education, Unity, and Progress” , please let me know.

I can be reached at 662-298-4596.

    Mr. Strong,

Your thoughts, and views of OUR city is very interesting, and “Cosmic”, as you might say. You are really heading in the right direction, and I really feel within the sentiments of my being that you are exactly what this town needs. I deem an honor as well as a priviledge to be a part of your movement or should I say cause. I encourage you this very day to continue in your focus, because doors will be shut in your face. Don’t allow this to deter your from folowing your dreams and admirations. Indianola is a city that is in desparrate need of the cosmic character concerns of your, also we need new visions, and a younger mind running our town. I am for you Mr. Mario T. Strong. If I am ever needed feel free to call on me.

    Hello Mr. Strong,

I hope you’re doing well. My name is Alexis Dennis, and I am a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am currently researching “Sex Education Policy, Curriculum, and Resources in Sunflower County, Mississippi” in an effort to figure out a way to address and reduce the teen pregnancy rates of Sunflower County. I’ve done some research on national and state-wide sex education policies as well as the teen pregnancy rates of Mississippi and Sunflower, MS in particular, and noticed that Mississippi & Sunflower have abstinence-only sex-education policies in place, but the teen pregnancy rates are also INCREDIBLY high there.

I was wondering if I could schedule a phone interview with you about your opinions on the teen pregnancy epidemic in Indianola and Sunflower County, as well as what you think local government, and you specifically (as a mayoral candidate), could do to address this issue.

As a candidate wanting to push “Education, Unity, and Progress” in Indianola, and the Delta, I am extremely interested in hearing your opinions. Please contact me if you are interested in helping me with this research: acdennis@email.unc.edu.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
